Andrew Selby KC

Practicing nationwide, Andrew Selby KC is a King’s Counsel with almost thirty years’ experience at the Bar. His principal practice is criminal law, complemented by substantial experience in regulatory, professional disciplinary, appellate, inquest and sports law matters. Andrew is also an accredited mediator.

He is regularly instructed in serious, complex and high-profile cases across England and Wales, including homicide, organised crime, terrorism, serious sexual offences, fraud and regulatory prosecutions. He has represented clients in many of the country’s most significant and widely reported criminal cases and is frequently instructed in proceedings involving extensive evidence, complex legal issues and substantial personal or professional consequences.

Whether advising behind the scenes or appearing before a jury or appellate court, he combines rigorous legal analysis with practical, straightforward advice. Andrew is regularly instructed in appeals, retrials and other post-conviction proceedings, where his ability to analyse complex evidence, identify decisive legal issues and develop effective appellate strategy is particularly valued. He is accustomed to working with extensive case papers, fresh evidence and difficult procedural issues in cases carrying significant consequences for his clients.

Andrew has developed a substantial practice in sports law, regulation and governance. He is a Specialist Panel Member of The Football Association Safeguarding Review Panel, a Legal Member of Sport Resolutions’ National Safeguarding Panel and an approved lawyer with The Football Association. He accepts instructions in disciplinary, safeguarding, governance and regulatory matters involving athletes, clubs, governing bodies and other participants in sport. These appointments complement his advocacy practice and reflect his experience of independent decision-making, procedural fairness and safeguarding within sport.
