  • Overview

    Katie Walden joined Chambers in June 2026, having moved from Manchester, where she began her practice in 2022. She has been recognised for her well-prepared and pragmatic approach to cases and her personable manner with clients.

    She worked as a coordinator for the University of Birmingham Free Legal Advice Group, an intern for Advocate, and she researched and assisted in drafting a submission to the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, which was accepted in its entirety by the Group (opinion 70/2021). Prior to the Bar, Katie worked for the Welsh Government on social welfare policy.

  • Crime

    Katie is a CPS Level 2 Panel member for General Crime and for Serious Crime.

    She has developed a broad criminal practice, both prosecuting and defending violent offences, domestic violence, possession of weapons, possession and supply of drugs, dishonesty offences and dangerous dogs. She has conducted trial in both the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts.

    She has acted for police forces in applications for sexual risk orders, criminal behaviour orders and confiscation orders.

    For the defence, she has been instructed to make applications to amend sexual harm prevention orders. She has significant experience in driving matters and exceptional hardship applications.

    She has experience in cases with defendants with significant mental health difficulties and fitness to plead concerns.

    Notable Cases

    Operation Littlefinger (2025): Junior counsel for one of 9 defendants in a circa £25 million VAT fraud conspiracy.

    R v BM (2025): Represented the Crown in two trials against the defendant with identification being the core issue in both trial. He was convicted unanimously of attempted robbery, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, threatening with a blade, dangerous driving, disqualified driving and violent disorder and sentenced to an extended sentence of 11 years and 3 months.

    R v TT {2025): Represented a 16 year old defendant in the Crown Court. Undertook a complex sentencing exercise for two machete point robberies committed when he was 15 years old and whilst he was subject to a youth rehabilitation order for 16 offences.

    R v MG (2024): Made a successful submission of no case to answer on behalf of a defendant found in his own car with Class A drugs and charged with PWITS.

    R v JN (2024): Defended one of 7 defendants in a joint enterprise robbery trial. All others entered guilty pleas before trial. The Crown’s evidence was the same for all defendants. The defendant was acquitted.

    R v CM (2023): Represented a defendant in POCA proceedings and negotiated an agreement that reduced their benefit amount by over £120,000.

    R v RD (2023): Defended in an affray trial where the defendant admitted brandishing a knife and progressed self-defence. The jury acquitted.
