Adan Dahir was convicted of the murder of his estranged wife, Asiyah Harris, the mother of his two children. The defence case at trial was that he had accidentally stabbed her in the neck during a struggle over the possession of a knife, and had immediately called 999. But neighbours had heard Asiyah screaming in the lead up to the fatal violence, and the jury rejected his account. The trial judge sentenced Dahir to life imprisonment, with a minimum tariff of 16 years.
