A jury at Taunton Crown Court today returned unanimous guilty verdicts on 19 counts of child sex offences committed by scout leader Matthew Ellett after a trial lasting two and a half weeks.
The Crown’s case was that the defendant has used his position as a trusted and well-liked scout leader to groom and abuse the children in his charge. The offences included sexual activity with a child, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and assault of a child under 13 by penetration. There were five victims in total.
Mr Ellett will be sentenced on 5 October 2026.
