The defendant, Keith Crawford, was convicted of gross negligence manslaughter and breaches of Health and Safety Regulations relating to excavations, following an eight-day trial. He was sentenced to two-and-a-half years’ imprisonment. The jury found that he failed to provide proper safety equipment to Mr Peter Clements who was constructing a soakaway for the defendant’s swimming pool. As a result, the trench that he was digging collapsed burying him alive. Further details here.
